Seasonal-Just in TimeSeasonal-Just in Time is a suite of 3 dances, by Chris Ferris & Dancers, influenced by observations of the shifting, circular patterns of trees, plants, and weather. Linear Folds in Orbit is a tightly composed brainy duet contrasting flow and linear precision. The movements small details are its conversation and its large sweeps are a breath of air clearing the palate. A Short Distance, executed by a single dancer, who flattens herself to the earth, pulls against gravity and takes flight in an upward seeking to settle in both worlds. The Pendulum Weighs In (trio) takes the momentum of a single axis and hurls it into space. Shifting planes are the currents that wash through this dance creating direct approach verses subtle harmonies. This trio fills up the room creating a universe unto itself with its own weather. Choreography is by Chris Ferris. Original music is by Loren Kiyoshi Dempster. Dancers are: Julia Asher, Alli Bradley, Kelly Ireland, and Rachael Venner.together, a parttogether, a part, is an introspective journey choreographed by Joyce King and depicted by an all-female ensemble, Kelly Hogan(Friday), Maggie Fischer, Annie Saeugling, and Emma Andre(Saturday.). Covers are Alexandra Strouse and Nicole Golonka. Each member represents an aspect of self: emotional, physical, and mental health; this serves to humanize these abstract concepts, grounding them in a whimsically ephemeral reality of Kings design. Playing with these manifestations, we explored the deterioration of human health, posing the question: which aspect falters first, and how does that contribute to the decline or stimulation of their counterparts? The dancers additionally represent our relationships, creating a doubly layered metaphor that serves as a vehicle for examining how personal health affects ourselves and those around us. Kings work is hard-hitting and darkly funny, with music composed by Mozart, Dvorak, Haydn, and Savfk. together, a part, was supported in part by the Mertz-Gilmore Foundation Artist in Residence Union St. Dance, DOWNTOWN Brooklyn Rehearsal Residency Initiative, the Alpha Omega Studio to Stage program, and JKDC individual donors through our fiscal sponsor, The Field.
