Sophie Dunér returns to New York! “...a high-octane performer who thrives on visceral contrasts, rhythmic changes, and simmering intensity. She is a stylistic omnivore, taking elements from musical arenas that interest her but fashioning them to her own idiosyncrasies and sensibility.” (Music Web International, UK).
Celebrated Swedish musician Sophie Dunér returns to the New York jazz scene this November & December with 3 shows. With American pianist Steven Beck, she gives a performance of iconic German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Tierkreis (Zodiac) at Spectrum in Brooklyn on November 16 at 4pm. She returns to Silvana, 300 W 116th st in Harlem on December 11 at 7pm for a solo performance featuring mainly original jazz works accompanied by her 'Art Film Noir.' On November 16 at 3pm, prior to her performance with Steven Beck at Spectrum, she offers another solo show of original works accompanied by her art film.
Ms. Dunér recently gave the premiere of Francis Schwartz’s The Neon Pterodactyl at The Laureate Gala at Carnegie Hall accompanied by pianist Jennifer Savage and violinist Vladimir Dyo (a composition that will also be a guest feature on her Spectrum show), appeared on the Harlem Jazz Series’ Composers Concordance / The Jazz Influence with Strings, and was featured in Clarice Assad’s ‘TAPESTRY’ / The Mosaic Project at the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego, USA.
