In My Son The Waiter, A Jewish Tragedy, Brad Zimmerman combines years of training as an actor with years on the standup comedy circuit, to create this hybrid play. The performance weaves a bittersweet tale of one man's lengthy, and we do mean lengthy struggle to make it as an actor in New York. His send-ups on his family, his career, his childhood, and his misbegotten love life are as warm as they are hysterical. The play is atypical one man show in that it is told through many vignettes, but it works, and judging from the audience response over the years, it works beautifully. The piece has generated much buzz while delivering an inspirational message: if you can find something in your life that you truly love, that gives your life meaning, and you don't give up under any circumstances, it can make for a meaningful and rich life, no matter the outcome. Brad Zimmerman holds nothing back and tells it like it is. It is not a piece just for Jews. it is a performance for anyone who aspires to get the most out of their talents and is willing to stay the course.
