On the centenary of Marcello Mastroianni’s birth (1924–1996), MoMA, in collaboration with Cinecittà, Rome, has invited the actress Chiara Mastroianni to present a discriminating and cherished selection of her father’s films. Many of these will be shown in new digital restorations courtesy of Cinecittà, beginning with the premiere of Luchino Visconti’s Le notte bianche (White Nights, 1957) on December 12. Chiara Mastroianni will also introduce a few of her own films, including the North American premiere of Christophe Honoré’s Marcello Mio (2024) on December 13. A highlight of the main Cannes competition this year, Marcello Mio is a loving dual portrait in which the actress inhabits various of her father’s guises while also interrogating her own life.
The Museum of Modern Art is at 11 West 53rd Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues, New York, NY.
