SUN, March 31: Maryam Raya Kheirbek, PianoPROGRAM:Two fascinating works by Beethoven & Schumann are presented side by side and in contrast to each other. Beethoven's Fantasia is arguably one of the most improvisational and a most challenging piece of music ever composed. Set against that, Schumann's Symphonic Etudes with its theme and 16 variations (5 posthumously published) is not only itself, highly improvisational, but uses the variations principle to further explore the complexity and beauty of polyphony.L.V.
