Sleater-Kinney in Bob's Burgers
Sleater-Kinney is an American rock band that became popular in Washington State in the '90s. At first, the band was a collaboration between Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker, but then Janet Weiss joined as the band's drummer in 1996. The band released nine albums that have captured people's attention worldwide, as many individuals have started singing their songs. You might be aware of some of their songs, but do you know the band released a video for "A New Wave," where Carrie, Corin, and Janet got animated directly in Tina Belcher's bedroom from Bob's Burgers?
Besides this video, the band has also been a guest star in the cartoon. In Bob's Burgers, the girls appear under the name of Bad Hair Day, competing with Linda in a singing contest. Even though Linda tries her best, she can't be better than the girls from Bad Hair Day. And it is no wonder why, as later we find out, Bad Hair Day is particularly the popular band Sleater-Kinney.
Dave Mustaine in Duck Dodgers
David Mustaine is a well-known artist around the world, being the primary songwriter, co-founder, and frontman of the thrash metal band Megadeth. Together with Megadeth, Mustaine has released sixteen albums, sold more than 38 million records worldwide, and also won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance back in 2017. Before starting his own band, David was the lead guitarist of Metallica, a metal music staple from the first moment it debuted in the early '80s.
But have you ever imagined that such a rock icon could be part of the Duck Dodgers, the Looney Tunes series set in space? David Mustaine appeared in the episode named "In Space, No One Can Hear You Rock," where he also plays a song from the Megadeth's album The System Has Failed. Previously, Tom Jones was also a guest on the show, so the Duck Dodgers wanted to show its appreciation for well-known artists.
Aimee Mann in Steven Universe
Opal is a character from the Steven Universe who represents a fusion between Pearl and Amethyst. As Amethyst and Pearl differ greatly, their fusion, Opal, is calm and stable. What should be noted about this character is that it has been voiced by Aimee Mann, an Oscar—and Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who has released nine albums. Additionally, Aimee is known for trying out different genres of music, including pop rock, rock country, new wave, and alternative rock.
Aimee has also taken part in the band Til Tuesday, where she was a bassist and a singer, and in the Steven Universe, the artist has offered other musical contributions.
Axl Rose in New Looney Tunes
Axl Rose is a famous American songwriter, singer, and vocalist of the Guns N'Roses, a hard rock band. Rose has a powerful and distinctive voice and was named one of the greatest singers of all time. Axl Rose has also appeared in New Looney Tunes, where you can see the artist's talent as he sings an original song with his powerful voice and makes his known serpentine slither dance.
Axl Rose also appeared on Scooby-Doo and wasn't the only Guns N' Roses artist animated, as Slash, the lead guitarist, also featured in Phineas and Ferb.
Mama Cass Elliot in Scooby-Doo
Mama Cass Elliot was a member of the Mamas & the Papas and is an important figure in the rock and roll sphere for her contributions. She had also performed on her own after the band broke up and even received a Grammy Award for her "Monday, Monday'' performance. Mama Cass was also a guest star in The New Scooby-Doo Movie, where the cartoon had a celebrity guest involved in solving the week's mystery in each episode. In the episode where Mama Cass Elliot appeared, the artist was involved in the mystery as she owned a haunted candy factory.
Her appearance in the show is to be remembered, as soon after the episode was launched on screens, the artist passed away.
Conclusion
As you can see, quite a few artists have appeared in cartoons, and their list is even longer if we take a closer look. Even if rock stars might not have anything in common with cartoons at first, the appearances of all the artists mentioned above were worth watching and will surely remain in people's memories for years to come.
