Dracula: Finding of a Shadow
A play by Lisa Monde
Directed by Thomas R. Gordon and Lisa Monde
This Halloween, the Gene Frankel Theatre presents a musical play "Dracula. Finding of a Shadow", inspired by the original gothic novel written by Bram Stoker - "Dracula", as well as the two recently published works by the famous writer's great grand-nephew Dacre Stoker: the sequel - "Dracula the Un-Dead" and the prequel - "Dracul".
Dracula, over the past 125 years, has transformed from a villain-vampire into a socialized attractive man, who is eager to rid himself of the "vampiric peculiarities": such as the inability to reflect in a mirror or cast a shadow. The story of attempting to find a new shadow unfolds, at the same time as the plotline of Mina and Dracula's love develops. «Relevant, musical, fluid, funny at times», – this is how the creators describe their production.
«The spectators are in for a surprise! Trust me. You have never seen such a Dracula before!» - comments Scott Lilly, one of the lead actors, who is portraying Dracula's shadow - Alucard.
The production, created through the collaboration of the Onomatopoeia Theater Company and Monli International Company LLC, received the approval and support from Dacre Stoker, who recorded a special video message to the spectators, which will be played at the conclusion of the show each night.
"A Musical Inspection of Love & Identity"
Most people think they know who the man “Dracula” is. How the Count Vlad Tepes became the prototype for the famous vampire novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. But they do not know the real truth of “Dracula’s” identity. How the loss of his beloved shattered him and his touch with humanity, creating a Shadow… a Shadow named Alucard.
Now, through the æther of his castle, Dracula is searching for a new Shadow.
Meanwhile, powerful forces are struggling for the soul of a woman named Mina Murray, a woman said to be romantically linked to both Dracula and a lawyer named Johnathan Harker.
Alucard, fearing the Count’s search for his new Shadow conspires against Dracula seeking to prevent his inevitable connection to Mina.
But who is really fighting for Love and who is conspiring for Evil: Count Dracula or his Shadow, Alucard?
