The Abbey Theatre is proud to present the first revival of By the Bog of Cats by Marina Carr, since 1998 when it first premiered on the Abbey stage. This powerful tale from one of Ireland’s leading playwrights is a thrilling re-imagining of the Greek tragedy Medea.
Hester Swane is a woman scorned. An outsider in the community, she is haunted by the past and her attempts to come to terms with a lifetime of abandonment. When her world is torn in two, what lengths will she go to in order to protect what she believes is rightfully hers?
We are delighted to welcome back the award-winning Selina Cartmell (King Lear) to direct this gripping drama which tests the limits of human endurance.
