Celebrities With A Knack For Poker: Who Can We See Often At The Poker Tables?
Poker, being a game that every Tom, Dick, and Harry can easily learn, has attracted a huge audience over the years. It thus comes as no surprise that the game’s extended stay in the spotlight has attracted the scrutiny of certain celebrities. And if you love the game and also want to practice it you can try it at Ignition online poker.
And while some of these celebrities are still relatively new to the game, certain others possess professional skills that make them formidable opponents. But not all of these celebrities play their hands in public. Some prefer their privacy while certain others don’t mind the public scrutiny; in fact, they revel in it.
This writeup thus provides a list of those celebrities who have a knack for poker and can be seen at live dealer tables. Read up!
Jennifer Tilly
Famous Hollywood actress, Jennifer Tilly developed a vested interest in poker after her father gave her a popular video poker game as a gift when she was much younger. This seemingly simple gift later proved to become what spurred Tilly into the poker world. To this day, Jennifer retains this ignited interest and she has honed her gambling skills to utmost perfection.
Evidence of her gaming talent is the WSOP bracelet attached to her name which she got after winning the Ladies No-Limit Texas Hold’Em event in 2005. In addition to this, Jennifer has also won over $1 million in liver poker matches while enjoying the coaching of her professional poker-playing boyfriend. Her most recent winning occurred at the 2019 WSOP where she won four in-the-money finishes.
Jay-Z
Anyone who says Jay-Z has multiple personalities would not be wrong. In the recording room, Jay-Z is a talented singer and rapper; in the business world, he’s a renowned investor; in his home, he’s Beyoncé’s husband; and lastly, in the casino, he is a skilled poker player.
Jay-Z’s love for poker is no secret as he has been seen multiple times visiting poker rooms in London when touring. During his early days of playing this casino game, it is said that he lost a lot of money but since he could afford it, it was no biggie. However, since then, he has honed his skills to the point where he can hold his own against other players.
Shannon Elizabeth
Shannon Elizabeth is the embodiment of the phrase “Whatever you lay your hands on will prosper”. In all that this woman has done, she has encountered success, and her interest in poker games is not an exception. First came her skill at tennis, then came her impressive performance in the American Pie trilogy, and then poker.
Sometime in 2006, Shannon admitted that she had an eye for poker and she preferred to think of it as “her second career”. On many of her regular visits to Las Vegas, she bested even the best of poker players. She also participated in the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship where she finished as a semi-finalist.
These days, however, it seems like Shannon Elizabeth doesn’t play as much poker as she did in her prime. But we know that if she ever does return to the tables, her poker skills will dominate all others.
Matt Damon
After appearing in the best gambling movie of all time (arguably) titled Rounders, Matt Damon became widely accepted by poker players. Combining his talent as an actor with his skill in poker games, Matt Damon has appeared many times at The World Series of Poker.
With a quick poker game here and another one there, Matt has successfully kept his poker gaming life away from public scrutiny. But this doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy participating in poker tournaments once in a while.
Victoria Coren Mitchell
The first woman to ever win a European Poker Tour event is Victoria Coren Mitchell, a journalist and TV presenter two-timing as a poker player. Accumulating wins upon wins, Mitchell soon became one of the most successful celebrity poker players.
After finishing second at the Poker Tour event, she had her first notable win of £14,000. Not long after this achievement, she made a name for herself at a late-night poker show, taking the title of Celebrity Poker Club. The accumulation of all these wins and more makes her total live poker cash task up to a whopping $2.5 million.
Conclusion
Poker is not a game for those without skill and/or money, and it seems the above-listed celebrities understand this. They had the money to spare and were able to hone their skills to perfection, although some lost money in the process.
So, if you ever find yourself at a poker table with some of these celebrities, be careful because the celebrity you know on screen is most likely different from the skillful poker player in front of you.
