terraNOVA Collective announced an open call for submissions to the 7th Annual soloNOVA Arts Festival, taking place at the D•R•2 Theatre & D-Lounge just off Union Square in New York City, May 2010.

soloNOVA is the premier festival for solo performers and visual artists in New York City. It celebrates innovative individuals who push the boundaries of what it means to be an artist, aims to redefine the solo form and reinvigorates the audience through the time-honored tradition of storytelling.

The centerpiece of the soloNOVA Arts Festival will feature eight performers of multiple genres in music, dance, spoken word, puppetry, magic, burlesque, monologues and traditional solo plays presented in the D•R•2 Theatre. The shows will run in repertory over the course of three weeks.

A late night series of music, comedy and spoken word, "Ones at Ten," will take place in the D-Lounge, a cabaret-style venue below the D•R•2 Theatre, at 10:00pm after the mainstage shows. Also featured at the Ones at Ten will be three DJs accompanying each series.

Rounding out the festival, two visual artists receive solo shows in the lobbies of the D•R•2 Theatre and the D-Lounge for the duration of the festival. All mediums are welcome to apply.

In the past soloNOVA honored and presented such artists as Mike Daisey (The Last Cargo Cult, How Theatre Failed America), Taylor Mac (The Be(a)st of Taylor Mac, Lily's Revenge), Kim Wayans (My Wife and Kids, In Living Color), Christen Clifford (BabyLove) and Carlos Andrés Gómez (Spike Lee's The Inside Man, Man Up)

soloNOVA's 2009 festival received 10 New York Innovative Theatre Awards nominations, including five in the category of Outstanding Solo Performance (Martin Dockery, Leigh Evans, Jeff Grow, Abena Koomson, and Micia Mosely). Other nominations were Outstanding Short Script (The Surprise by Martin Dockery and Creating Illusion by Jeff Grow) and Outstanding Performance Art/Variety Act (Traces by Leigh Evans and Creating Illusion by Jeff Grow).
