Clancy Productions invites you to the World Premiere of THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA, a new play with music by Tony Award Winner Greg Kotis (Urinetown). Directed by Obie Award winner John Clancy (Americana Absurdum, Fatboy), this refreshingly apocalyptic holiday tale runs December 3 -20 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd & 3rd Aves).
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! And the terrible truth about who he is, how he treats his elves, and what his home life has become will all be revealed in THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA. Will this Christmas be Santa's last? Will Mrs. Claus finally make good on her threat to submerge humanity in a lake of fire? Who are these children and where did they get their strange powers?

The production stars Clay Adams, Bill Coelius, Jeff Gurner, Clay Adams, Luisa Strus and the entire Kotis family: India Kotis (age 11), Milo Kotis (age 8) and Ayun Halliday (Kotis' wife, and mother of the aforementioned children).
Please note: although this dysfunctional family comedy features children, it is NOT FOR CHILDREN-- adults and extremely skeptical tweens only, please.
Greg Kotis wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics for Urinetown (the Musical). He received an Obie award, as well as two Tony awards for his work on this show. Greg also wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics for the new musical Yeast Nation (the triumph of life), which received its world premiere last winter at the Perseverance Theatre Company in Juneau, Alaska. Yeast Nation will receive it's lower 48 premier this coming spring at Chicago's American Theater Company. Other plays include Jobey and Katherine, Eat the Taste and Pig Farm. Greg got his start in Chicago, where he wrote for and performed with The Neo-Futurists and the Cardiff Giant Theater Company, among others.
John Clancy is an Obie Award-winning director and the co-founder of FringeNYC. He works for Clancy Productions, an international touring and production company specializing in new American theater and serves as the Executive Director of the League of Independent Theater, the advocacy organization for 99-seat theaters in New York City. His directing credits include Parks' Americana Absurdum, Don Nigro's Cincinnati, his own play Fatboy and the UK premiere of Midnight Cowboy. He was awarded The New York Magazine Award in 1997 for "creativity, enterprise and vision".
