Slammer! (a new women-in-prison musical) will have its world premiere as part of the 11th annual New York International Fringe Festival, where it will run from August 10th through 26th.

Slammer! is inspired by the cult genre "women in prison" films. "Tabitha, a sheltered, naïve, and innocent girl is wrongfully thrown into a women's prison.  There she must learn to survive through her wits as she deals with two rival gangs of inmates as well as the evil Warden Eva Danka and Smiley, her sleazy, predatory prison guard.  Discovering her inner strength, Tabitha gains power and stature with the inmates until finally she leads them in revolt against their captors.  Oh yes, there will be singing and dancing!," as the show is described in press notes.

"Longtime friend, collaborators and 'Tex-patriates' Steve Adams and Chan Chandler have taken the diverse and multicultural musical styles of their native Texas (Blues, Rock and Roll, Gospel) and built a compelling and high energy theatrical score.  They've been joined by a team of outlaw theatre artists from Austin, NY and LA to bring the premiere of Slammer! to FringeNYC with all the power of a roadhouse rock concert.

The role of the evil prison guard "Smiley the Screw" will be played by Saverio Guerra (Becker, Summer of Sam, Lucky You).  Rod Caspers will direct.  Ann Presley is the choreographer.  Sets are by Kim Chandler.  Lighting will be by Casey McClellan.  Acclaimed Austin musician Chip Dolan is arranging, serving as musical director and will lead the band for the production.

Tickets: $15. For tickets visit www.FringeNYC.org or call: in New York: (212) 279-4488 or outside New York: 1-888-FringeNYC.  Visit www.slammerthemusical.com for more information.
