Wagner College Theatre continues its 2019-20 Mainstage Season with the divine musical comedy SISTER ACT, with performances February 27 through March 8, 2020 in the Main Hall Theatre.
SISTER ACT follows Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look - a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, SISTER ACT is reason to REJOICE!
Based on the hit 1992 film that starred Whoopi Goldberg, this hilarious and joyful musical features a book by Emmy and Golden Globe Award winning duo Cheri and Bill Steinkellner and features original music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors) and lyrics by Glenn Slater (Disney's The Little Mermaid and Tangled)
Wagner College Theatre's SISTER ACT is directed and choreographed by Rusty Curcio (WCT's La Cage aux Folles and Cats), with music direction by Logan Medland (WCT's She Loves Me).
Wagner's production features Savannah Beckford as Deloris Van Cartier, Isabelle Miller as Mother Superior, Kirsten Kaiser as Mary Robert, Harper Lee Andrews as Mary Patrick, Jason Biss as Curtis Jackson, Ian Dembek as Eddie Souther, Rebecca Marlowe as Mary Lazarus, Ruth Kupperburg as Mary Theresa, Julie Manning as Mary Martin-of-Tours, Gianina Mugavero as Michelle, Brianna Cielo as Tina, Brendan Hale as Joey, Ross Coughlin as Pablo, Benjamin Sellers as TJ, and Conner Wynn as Monsignor O'Hara. Divya Khanna is Deloris u/s. The ensemble includes Madi Asgeirsson, Emily Barkovic, Elayna Broillet, Will Ellis, Nick Gerrity, Francesca Litterio, Drew Matthews, Emily Moreno, Lindy Pokorny, Zac Sloan, Emily Upton, and William Wallace.
The creative team includes Phill Hickox (scenic design), Jeff Hendry (costume design), Vicki Neal (lighting design), Richard Kroth (sound design), Aaron Frongillo (props master) and Cat Lawless (wig and makeup design). Ana Bella is assistant director. Mary Omilian is production stage manager.
The Broadway production, opened April 20, 2011 at the Broadway Theatre running 561 performances, starring Patina Miller, Victoria Clark and WCT Alum Christina DeCicco. The show received multiple Tony Award nominations, including for Best Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Miller) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Clark).
Performances of SISTER ACT are Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.
