After spending 2 years work shopping each play of her trilogy "Women You Thought You Knew" Stephanie Lynn Wilson will finally mount, what she considers to be, the historical run of an entire trilogy. The three plays, about three women of different ethnic backgrounds who are usually viewed as "bad girls", runs March 20th-26th at IATI Theater's Theatre 2, at 64 E. 4th Street, New York, NY during Women's History Month and SWAN Day (Support Women Artists Now). She wants us to venture into their hearts and minds as well as ponder social issues from the pre Gay Rights era to veteran issues. Each play will have four performances at various times.
In The Grinder, Lauren Lamonte aka "Diamond, a stripper past her prime, can't seem to wiggle her way off the strip club runway due to abandonment issues she suffered as a child, making her obsessed with survival and the lucrative income the gig brings. Silk Stockings and a Bible takes us back from the 1970's back to the golden days of Swing, when former Harlem chorus girl Fannie May Brown now a "church lady" reflects on the glamorous past and the austere present. Regrets? Stars China L. Colston, Stacey Griffin, Marsha-Ann Hay, Santi Rodriguez, Stephanie Lynn Wilson, and Rock Jones.
In Wild Child, set in the Disco era, Chinese American free spirit Susan Li is the black sheep of her image conscious family and is badgered by the favored son, her younger brother. Befriending a damaged Vietnam War veteran and confiding in a newly discovered Afro-Chinese relative is a train wreck waiting to happen. Stars Christine Kim, Luke Couzens, Jan Mizushima, Lora Yuen, Nick Fang, Alejandro Pagan, and Alysha Wright.
This is Ms. Wilson's 5th full length play all which shed light on social issues and little known history. She directed and produced her first play, the supernatural mystery thriller A Wound in Time Off Off and Off Broadway and adapted it to screenplay which she directs as a feature film.
