The Hyper Aware Theater Company presents its newest work, Wild Blue, the story of Jet Blue flight attendant Steven Slater, by Gary Ferrar and Louis Aquiler, both recipients of the Philip Rosenthal Grant for Comedy. Wild Blue will have seven performances over two weeks at The Access Theater from March 30 - April 9, 2011.

Loosely based on The Wizard of Oz, Wild Blue imagines the hysterical and haunting moments that caused Steven Slater to curse out passengers over the intercom, slide down the emergency slide, and become an instant Facebook sensation. In the second act, Steven escapes to a cabin near the Canadian border, inhabited by famed 1970's airline hijacker/outlaw D. B. Cooper. In this backwoods version of Oz, Steven assumes the role of Dorothy while D. B., as the Wizard, questions whether their actions are "the only sane reaction to an insane society." Wild Blue explores the many problems with our overburdened society and whether or not it's possible to truly break free.

Wild Blue features Chad Miller (CollegeHumor) as Steven Slater. The ensemble includes Erin Ronder (The PIT), Ariana Murphy (The Magnet), Jeremy Weber (AMDA), Nastasha Strang (Algonquin Theater), and George Walsh; and features the original song, "The Nearest Exit," by Patrick Gaughan (The Argyle Effect).

The Hyper Aware Theater Company was founded in 2008, in an effort to push beyond the standard gimmicks of metatheater into a world of pure emotion. Most recently, their sold out run of Time Traveling with Cannibals at Nicu's Spoon Theater was hailed as "a hilarious journey with outrageously awesome set design . . . which never drags or lags" by theateronline.com.
