Vital Theatre Co Presents AWESOME ALLIE, FIRST KID ASTRONAUT 3/12-4/26

The award-winning Vital Theatre Company is pleased to announce its production AWESOME ALLIE, FIRST KID ASTRONAUT, with book by Scott Elmegreen, music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola and directed by Jeremy Dobrish. Performances run Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am and 1 pm, March 12th through April 26th. Tickets are $25. The show is appropriate for ages 3-12. Yesterday Allie was just a normal kid, but today she's headed into outer space! With the help of her trusty talking dog Captain Chaos and Rover the Dancing Robot from Mars, Allie's on a mission across the solar system to save Earth and maybe learn some things about science along the way. But she'd better be home in time for dinner! Grab your space suit and get ready for an adventure that's out of this world!

The cast features Joshua David Bishop, Chris Kind, Ashley Laverty, Dara Hartman, Michael Jayne Walker and Erica Wilpon.

Scott Elmegreen (Book) is a Broadway composer, playwright, sound designer, and young adult author living in New York City. His original compositions can be heard in Colin Quinn LONG STORY SHORT, directed by Jerry Seinfeld at the Helen Hayes Theatre, and recent writing credits include THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS AND THE CLIMATE CHALLENGE (music and lyrics; upcoming National Tour); COLLEGE THE MUSICAL (Hippodrome State Theatre; pub. Dramatic Publishing Company); VOTE FOR ME: A MUSICAL DEBATE (NYMF 2010); and THUCYDIDES (pub. Samuel French). Other composition and sound design credits include WHAT I TOOK IN MY HAND (Ontological-Hysteric Theatre; Brick Theatre), DAGUERREOTYPE (Abingdon Theater), WE CAN'T REACH YOU, HARTFORD (Bedlam Theater; Scotsman's Fringe First nomination), Joyce Carol Oates' TONE CLUSTERS (Fringe Repo! rt Award, Best Play), and ‘S WONDERFUL: THE NEW GERSHWIN MUSICAL (National Tour), which Scott also orchestrated. Drew Fornarola (Music and Lyrics) is a composer, lyricist, and playwright living in New York City. His work includes: CLAUDIO BROS: A VIDEOGAME MUSICAL (commissioned by The New Musical Dev'p Foundation; Winner Capital Fringe Best Musical); COLLEGE THE MUSICAL (pub. Dramatic Publishing Co.); UNCLE PIRATE (commissioned by Vital Theater Co, pub. Samuel French); THUCYDIDES (Winner Samuel French Festival; pub. Samuel French); and VOTE FOR ME - A MUSICAL DEBATE (commissioned by Robyn Goodman, NYMF 2010). His original underscore for Buddy Thomas' DEVIL BOYS FROM BEYOND (New World Stages, 2010) is also published by Samuel French. Drew is active in concert music and cabaret as well. He has performed in cabaret venues throughout New York City, and his work has been featured three times in the New Ameri! can Songbook concerts at Lincoln Center. He is the recipient of a 2008 NYMF Award for Excellence in lyrics, and received a 2010 MAC Award Nomination for Song of the Year. He is currently developing a musical with DreamWorks Theatricals and a new play with longtime collaborator Scott Elmegreen. Jeremy Dobrish (Director) Recent Off Broadway: SIGNS OF LIFE (Amas), JUDAS AND ME (NYMF), SPAIN (MCC), ELECTION DAY (Second Stage), UNCLE PIRATE (Vital). Regional: Barrington Stage, Goodspeed, Hangar, North Shore, NY Stage and Film, Old Globe, O'Neill, Village. Jeremy is the Co-Artistic Director of Midtown Direct Rep, has served as an Artistic Associate at Second Stage, and was the Artistic Director of Adobe Theatre Company for 13 years. Vital Theatre Company commissions new musicals for children each season. Since its founding in 1999, Vital Theatre Company has been honored with two AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE by the Off Off Broadway Review and received high acclaim from audiences and critics alike for being "a wonderful place for parents to introduce their kids to the glories of live theatre, done well and at modest prices." Now in its 12th season, the company is dedicated to producing entertaining and educational theatre for young audiences.
