The Village Light Opera Group celebrates its 75th season with a new production of the musical classic, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. NEW YORK: The Village Light Opera Group (VLOG), one of the country's premiere theatre companies specializing in both operettas and Broadway musicals, will present FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts on May 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 in a new production directed by Tony Spinosa, who is also recreating the original Jerome
Robbins choreography.

Set in Tsarist Russia in 1905, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF tells the story of Tevye, a dairyman struggling to hold his family together while upholding the traditions of the Jewish faith. One by one, his three

eldest daughters fall in love and announce plans to marry, forcing Tevye to choose between breaking tradition and allowing his daughters to wed the men of their choice-all while facing the increasing possibility of eviction from their village of Anatevka. But despite its serious themes, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is a rousing and joyous musical that celebrates family, community, friendship and the customs that bond us together.

Joseph Stein's book is based on the stories of Shalom Aleichem. The score by Jerry Bock, with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, includes some of the most beloved songs ever written for the musical theater, such as If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker, Tradition, Sunrise, Sunset and Do
You Love Me?

Featured in the VLOG cast of 60+ performers are John Anthony Lopez as Tevye, Marlene Berner as Golde, Alan Rosenfeld as Lazar Wolf and Abby Kurnit as Yente. Portraying Tevye's daughters are Megan Marod as Tzeitel, Katie Michalek as Hodel and Stephanie Haring as Chava.

A veteran of both Broadway and regional theater, Mr. Spinosa is an award winning director and choreographer. He is the only director to receive 2 Golden Pineapple Awards for his work with New York's International Cringe Festival, in 2008 and 2009. In addition to his work on FIDDLER, he is currently working under the wing of director Terry Johnson on the Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles through the SDC Observership Program.

Musical director and VLOG veteran Debbie Litwak will conduct a full orchestra for this production.
Tickets for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF range from $20.00 to $45.00, making the VLOG production a great entertainment option at prices well below those commanded for Broadway musicals. Tickets are now available online at TheaterMania.com, by phone at (212)352-3101 and at the door.
For Group Rates for 10 or more tickets, please call (212) 243-6281. Performances: May 8, 14 & 15 at 8:00 PM and May 9 & 16 at 2:00 PM Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts (at Pace University), 3 Spruce Street, New York, NY
