The See You Next Tuesday Company of Los Angeles has added more performances of the new musical comedy, Bukowsical.
The show, which opened on August 11th at the Bleecker Street Theatre (45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette) as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, will now play final performances on Monday, August 20th at 2 PM and 7 PM. The production was to have played through August 18th.
"Written by Spencer Green and Gary Stockdale, with music by Gary Stockdale and direction by Joe Peracchio, Bukowsical! takes the form of a backer's audition held by an edgy fictional Los Angeles-based theatre troupe, the Sacred Angel Fist Circle of Note Gang (SAFCNG), trying to raise money for a (misguided) musical about the great besotted writer Charles 'Buk' Bukowski," state press notes. Bukowsical! will perform at the Bleecker Street Theatre, 45 Bleecker Street, as part of the New York International Fringe Festival/FringeNYC .
"SAFCNG's illustrious Founder/Artistic Director serves as the audience's guide as the show traces the life of famed writer Charles Bukowski from obscurity to international fame, starting with Buk's early torment by students, teachers and his Father in 'Art Is Pain.' He finds his muse on 'The Derelict Trail,' gets a 'Writing Lesson' from William Faulkner, William S. Burroughs, Sylvia Plath and Tennessee Williams and discovers his sexy, crab-infested One True Love in 'Chaser of My Heart.' After a soul-deadening job in a 'Post Office,' Buk's work is discovered and he is soon hanging out with celebrities like Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn in 'Through a Glass, Barfly.' But will he stay true to his literary ideals or sell out? And will he be too drunk to notice?"
"Bukowsical! is a no-holds-barred homage to Broadway, edgy theatre companies, and, of course, Bukowski himself. It also has a lot of songs with dirty words. It's the musical for people who love musicals as much as for those who hate them."
The cast of Bukowsical! includes Broadway and off-Broadway veterans Brad Blaisdell, Fleur Phillips and Lauren Rubin with Nadia Ahern, Jennifer Blake, Marc Cardiff, Matthew Garland, Ian Gould, Michael Lanahan and Cason Murphy.
