Designed as a vehicle for experimenting with and advocating for horror aesthetics on stage, Traumaturgy Productions (Jolene Noelle and Stephen Christensen) presents its second full-length play, Sunset Park, at Theaterlab's (Orietta Crispino, Artistic Director) Midtown home at 357 W 36th St, 3rd Floor, this weekend, October 27, 28, 29 and 31.
When a long vacant apartment in Sunset Park goes back on the market, bright eyed young couple Matty and Theo soon discover it was more than supply and demand that kept their new home empty. As their grasp on what's real and what's false begins inexplicably to fray - and their marriage with it - the pair must rely on the aid of a local linked to the building's murky past to peel back the layers of unsettling phenomena springing up around them. But with this ghostly presence growing more urgent by the moment, it may take more than just the truth to save them.
Traumaturgy Productions was conceived by dramaturgs Stephen Christensen and Jolene Noelle as a vehicle through which to explore and develop a modern aesthetic for horror on the stage. Noelle states, "By ignoring or underserving the horror genre, the theater has been shutting its doors to the many people who are attracted to this historically rich and robust genre."
Sunset Park features Sara Detrik, Jefferson Reardon, Karen Li, Trevor Liu
The creative team includes Maria Feuereisen (Scenic Design), Scott Mancha (Lighting Design), and Thomas Jaeger (Sound Design)
