Toy Box Theatre Company opens its 11th season with Worth House, a new play by company member Ryan Reilly about growing up with a father addicted to two things: alcohol and his family. Set in Chicago's South Side in 1989, this comedic family drama offers up a fresh take on recovery in a style that is equal parts The Glass Menagerie and TV's Roseanne.
Worth House runs tonight, February 27-March 7, 2015 at the Gene Frankel Theatre in New York City. The press opening is set for tonight, February 27, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.
Directed by company member Ken Urso and featuring Tom Frank (Dexter, The Wino Crossing) and Andrea Prestinario (Jeff Award winner, Side Show) with Deanna McGovern (Broadway World Award winner, Venus in Fur), Andy Phillips (MITF and Strawberry One-Act Festival nominee) and introducing 11-year-old Jack Clark (Inwood Little League Champion), with an original score by two-time NYITA nominee James Sparber (of Colonna Sonora).
Steve is in the doghouse . . . again. (Well, actually he's in a tent in the backyard.) A recovering alcoholic's act of bold determination, or just a pathetic last resort? His wife is over it. His 9 year-old son just wants to join him for s'mores. A story of last chances and knowing when to finally call it quits.
