Shakespearean actor Thomas Leverton tackles four roles, including a veteran musical theatre diva, in the backstage comedy MY SWOLLEN FEET by designer/playwright Carrie Robbins, to be presented at the Hudson Guild Theatre as part of The New York Summerfest Theatre Festival.
Mr. Leverton will play the roles of Padraic and Patrick, the doorman and porter of a Sutton Place co-op; Mr. Louie Rosen, a Garment District fabric purveyor; and Angela Thornbry, grande dame of the musical theatre. Leverton's mastery of character and accents, including Irish, Yiddish, and Continental, render him almost unrecognizable as he flows from one character to the next. His turn as the brittle Ms. Thornbry, in full nun's regalia, is among the one-act's most priceless scenes.
Mr. Leverton trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and received his BFA from the University of Utah. His Shakespearean credits include title roles in RICHARD II, MACBETH, HENRY V, ROMEO AND JULIET, and HAMLET for the American Theatre of Actors. Reviewing Hamlet in HI Drama!, Bill Bradford calls Leverton "...very accomplished...he commands our attention without demanding it...and has a true passion in his craft." Leverton's Romeo received the Jean Darymple Award for Best Shakespearean Actor. As Ken in TheatreWorks Hartford's production of RED, Anita Gates, reviewing for The New York Times, said "Leverton nails the scene in which Ken ridicules Rothko's blindness to the moral compromise the job represents." Leverton's past collaborations with Ms. Robbins include THE ACTRESS, SAWBONES, SEVERE CLEAR, and THE DIAMOND EATER. He will next be seen playing Viola in Orlando Shakespeare's production of Twelfth Night in rep with Shakespeare in Love.
MY SWOLLEN FEET is directed by Paul Dobie who has been the assistant director of several musicals on Broadway, including ONCE, CABARET, and WICKED, and was the Associate Director of Broadway and National tours of Tony award-winning THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.
Versatile character actor Tony Naumovski (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK) plays the legendarily eccentric theatre director Jason Gascoigne III and Amanda Rose (WICKED, HOLIDAY INN - THE NEW Irving Berlin MUSICAL) plays the struggling young costume designer Zoey Parnes, who is dreaming of her first big break. When summoned to an interview with Gascoigne to discuss costumes for his new Broadway musical, Zoey's colossal cold and Gascoingne's curious ways of working could prove her undoing.
