"There's Blood at the Wedding" is a new work by Theodora Skipitares employing large-scale puppetry and documentary narration.
The piece spotlights six victims of American police killings--Philando Castile, Amadou Diallo, Sandra Bland, Sean Bell, Justine Damond and Eric Garner--and each of their lives is celebrated on the stage of an ingenious giant performing book.
The production also compares their stories to passages from Lorca's "Blood Wedding," which are played out on a giant, hand-painted puppet stage. That's because the weddings of Sean Bell and Justine Damond, lost in a hail of bullets, recall the tragedy of Lorca's "Blood Wedding."
