Theater for the New City Presents Age Out 1/13-30, 2011

Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Executive Director) will present Tom Diriwachter's AGE OUT, a play based on Tom's own experiences working as a waiter in Times Square. Age Out was first developed at Theater for the New City as part of the Chrysalis Workshop directed by Lissa Moira. Three hundred plays were considered for Chrysalis, but only eight plays were selected for development. In June of 2010, the eight Chrysalis plays presented excerpts as part of the Lower East Side Festival of the Arts (LES Festival) and received one performance in the 1st Annual Chrysalis Festival. Age Out is one out of three of the eight original Chrysalis plays that have been awarded a full production run at Theater for the New City.

A fight with a rude customer results in Tim being fired from the Times Square restaurant where he's worked for the past eight years, sparking an existential crisis. As Tim's co-workers get off from work, they join him in the bar next door to commiserate over beers. Will he figure out what it all means before the revenge plot against their incompetent manager unfolds to potentially tragic ends?
AGE OUT will feature Bob Homeyer, Nicholas John Mazza, Patrick Pizzolorusso, Alexander Simmons, Oliver Thrun, Peter Welch, and Michael Wetherbee.

The production, presented by Theater for the New City (155 1st Avenue, between 9th and 10th Street) will play a three-week engagement January 13-30; Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm. TOM DIRIWACHTER (Playwright) has had five full-length plays produced including Age Out, Avoid Direct Sunlight, Asterisk, Great Kills, and Californication as well as numerous one-acts. He is a playwright in repertory at The American Theatre of Actors. In addition, he is a regular contributor to the literary website Mr. Beller's Neighborhood.

JONATHAN WEBER (Director) has directed several plays in his time at TNC, including September's Song, Your Town, An Optimistic Picture, Phallic Phables, Laugh, Damn Ya, Laugh! and Stops (Along the Road), all written by Walter Corwin. Other Directorial credits include Sister Mary Ignacius Explains It All For You (Binghamton University), Life Under Water (BU), Pvt. Wars (BU), his own plays 9J (TNC) and The Red Sox Monologues (TNC), 18:30 by Oliver Thrun (Where Eagles Dare Theater's Short Play Lab) and a reading of Militant Language by Sean Christopher Lewis (TNC). He is also the long-time Assistant Director for TNC's Award-Winning Street Theater Company. He is currently the Administrative Director at TNC, and serves on the planning committees for TNC's Love N' Courage Benefit, which will be held on February 28, 2011 at the National Arts Club and The Lower East Side Festival of the Arts, which will have its 16th incarnation this Memorial Day weekend.
