Theater for the New City has announced a production of SATAN'S WHORE: Victoria WoodHULL, written by Richard Geha, for March 22 – April 8, 2012. Lissa Moira directs this post-Civil War, period drama about the sexual liberationist Victoria Woodhull. Don Garverick choreographs, with set design by David Mansley and lighting design by William Giraldo.
Satan's Whore follows the life of Victoria Woodhull as she journeys from sexually abused child, to an infamous, celebrated, intellectual beauty of 19th Century New York City. Feminist suffragette & renowned spiritualist, Woodhull was the first female presidential candidate, with Frederick Douglass as her running mate. She was also the first female newspaper publisher & Wall Street broker, but was best known as a fearless free-love advocate & practitioner.

Richard Geha, the playwright is a clinical psychologist & a psychoanalyst in private practice. He holds an MA in literature & an MA & a PhD in psychology. As a university professor, he has taught undergraduate, graduate & post-graduate courses, as well as instructing at psychoanalytic institutes & several of his papers on psychoanalysis & literature have appeared in professional journals. He has published two collections of short stories: Primal Scenes: Stories of Radical Witness & As Marilyn Lay Dying: Stories of the Primal Scene.
Lissa Moira, director and dramaturg, is also a playwright (Before God Was Invented, Time It Is) & the co-writer of Dead Canaries, a feature film starring Charles Durning, Dan Luria, Dee Wallace-Stone & Joel Higgins. Her latest production as director, Siren's Heart: Marilyn in Purgatory, by Walt Stepp, will open Off-Broadway in April. With Richard West she is working on a DaDa noir musical, Who Murdered Love? for this summer.
