Following its sold-out run of Peter Nichols' A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, The Night Shift presents an updated staging of William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, directed by artistic director Jonathan Minton and running March 23 to April 1 at the Alchemical Theatre Laboratory. This production is sponsored by Shakespearances.com and is an Equity Approved Showcase.

Corruption, class warfare, and sexual violence all come to a head when an overzealous ruler assumes authority, vowing to clean up the streets with law and order. Shakespeare's satirical classic asks how far we've gone- and how far we're willing to go- all in the name of justice.

When Duke Vincentio unexpectedly hands over his power as the ruler of Vienna to his deputy, Lord Angelo, the city suddenly turns to broken windows policing under the new commander in chief. Soon after, the young Claudio is sentenced to death for the crime of getting too hot and heavy with his fiancée before marriage. Only his sister, the chaste and fierce Isabella, can convince Angelo to spare her brother-but to do so she must choose between her brother's mortal life and her own immortal soul.

The Night Shift is a collective of artists from the coldest and hottest extremes of the United States who have come together to spark inventive, bold, classical and contemporary New York theatre distinguished by truthful storytelling and economic accessibility. The Night Shift aspires to shed new light onto issues, ideas, and people at the margins of the human experience.

Measure for Measure is directed by Jonathan Minton. Cast includes Margaret Catov*, Chris Alexey Diaz*, Colin B. Gold*, Tom Harney*, Laura Kay, Brian Nemiroff*, Mariette Strauss, Lisa Egan Woods* and Yha Mourhia Wright.
