The Dramatic Question Theatre (DQT) will present a workshop production of The Pet Play by Noemi de la Puente, directed by David Davila. The Pet Play will begin performances on June 14 and run through June 24 at The Shetler Theatre (244 West 54th Street). Jenny is in love with Peanut, her cat. Naturally, then, Taylor, her husband leaves. Now, Jenny wants Taylor back, only he's found someone else, Porkie, his new dog. What's Jenny to do? Hilarious and heartfelt, The Pet Play is about obsessive pet owners and the search for unconditional love.

Cast includes: Zakiya Iman Markland* (NYC: Balls. Regional: Junk - La Jolla Playhouse), Frankie LaPace (digital sketch comedy - RosaBaby), Nikaury Rodriguez (NYC: Exile Is My Home) and Tanya Perez* (TV: "Jessica Jones," "Madam Secretary").

Creative team includes lighting design by Zachary Heffner (NYC: The Sorceress), costume design by Sharon Mejia (recent: A Midsummer Night's Dream), sound design by Kurt Cruz (Thirteen O'Clock Theater's Zoot Suit), set and prop design by TzuChing Cheng (The Secret Theatre's Columbinus), puppet design by Anatar Marmol-Gagne (Short film: Lula) and Stage Management by Emma C. Olson* (recent:Bright Colors and Bold Patterns).

Creative Team:

NOEMI de la PUENTE (Playwright) earned her MFA in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa, her MSE from Princeton University, and her BSE from the California Institute of Technology. She is the librettist and lyricist of the musical comedy MANUEL VERSUS THE STATUE OF LIBERTY (Winner, 2014 NYMF Developmental Reading Series Award; Winner, 2015 New York Music Festival's Special Award for Social Relevance and Impact, Nominated, 2015 NYMF's Best Musical Award; semi-finalist, 2016 O'Neill National Music Theatre Conference). Her ten-minute musical, LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE, was premiered by the DQT at the Huron Club of the Soho Playhouse; and, subsequently, produced by the Microteatro-SEA in Caracas Venezuela. Ms. de la Puente's GENERIC HISPANIC (Finalist, 2012 MultiStages New Works Contest) was produced by the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre Company. Her solo show FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH was premiered by the Carolinian Shakespeare Festival and received subsequent productions by the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre and the DQT at Theatre 3. From 2004 to 2012, Ms. de la Puente was a member of the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre's Professional Playwrights Unit. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild and a founding member of the Dramatic Question Theatre.

David Davila (Director) is a writer and performer from South Texas; where 45 wants to build his idiotic wall. His musicals and song-cycles include MANUEL VERSUS THE STATUE OF LIBERTY (NYMF Best Musical Nomination 2015, Best Developmental Reading Series Award 2014, Princeton University 2016, Gallery Players BK 2018), PROMÈSA (in development at Musical Theatre Factory), VOX POP (Musical Theatre Factory, 54 Below New Musicals), PYRAMID (Lincoln Center Across A Crowded Room Series 2015), #52SONGS (Beechman, The West End, The Underground, The Triad), F*CKING BEAUTIFUL (Beechman), THE MAGIC TIME MACHINE (Beechman), NASH POTATOES & DAVY (The West End), and TALES FROM HWY 281 (Intar Theatre). His full-length plays include ANIMAL HUSBANDRY (Barn Arts, Feast, PlayGround Experiment), AZTEC PIRATES & THE INSIGNIFICANCE OF LIFE ON MARS (PlayGround Experiment), ADAN Y JULIO (Lone Star), MEN OF GOD (Lone Star), CREDO (ESPA), and ABUELAS OR THE POVERTY CYCLE (Feast). His short plays have been featured by The PlayGround Experiment, NYMadness, Feast, ESPA and Lone Star Theatre. He studied vocal performance at the University of North Texas, Arts Administration at The University of Texas San Antonio, playwriting at Primary Stages' Einhorn School of the Performing Arts and comedy writing/directing at Second City Chicago. He is the founding Artistic Director of Lone Star Theatre Company, a 2012 Rockwell Scholar, a 2016 Robert Askins Playwright Fellow, and a proud member of ASCAP. @davidodavila

THE DRAMATIC QUESTION THEATRE (Producer) develops and produces plays written by playwrights of color, female playwrights; and plays that deal with race, culture, and class in ways that are dynamic and different. Concurrently, DQT builds a diverse audience from the Latino and African American communities it serves.
