The Dirty Blondes announce their upcoming 24-hour play festival, The Devil-May-Play (Festival) at The Brick Theater on August 19, 2012. Following on the heels of their award- winning, world-premiere production of 'The American Play' at the 2012 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Brooklyn-based collective The Dirty Blondes announce their plans to bring together a group of unorthodox playwrights, directors, and actors to conceive, write, rehearse, and perform six short plays over the course of 24 hours. The culminating performance will feature six original, 15-minute plays connected by a single theme and carefully chosen by founding members Ashley Jacobson, Elizabeth Sarkady, and Alexandra Siladi. Jacobson and Siladi will team up again to anchor the night of performances with their own original and spontaneous, collaboration.
The Dirty Blondes mission is to present works that challenge convention and subvert stereotypes; are dark, refined, and thought-provoking, and prove appearances can be deceiving. Currently in the application process, each participating artist will be chosen on merit, apparent talent, and proven ability to create works that function outside conventional thought and action. The final lineup of The Devil-May-Play (Festival) will be announced on August 16th.
From a company founded on the idea of artistic collaboration, The Devil-May-Play (Festival) will focus on the writing and rehearsal process as an extremely fruitful and creative process where individual artists come together to create a unified work of theatre. Each founding 'Blonde' will serve as a resource to participating artists, providing insight, feedback and technical assistance. The goal is to encourage artists to produce their best work possible in a very short amount of time. The final result will be a performance based on raw emotion, first instincts, and uncensored creativity. The festival will function as an outreach opportunity for The Dirty Blondes as well as a fundraiser to mount their second world premiere production 'The Miracle Play,' slated for a spring 2013 opening.
