The Cell Theatre Presents THE HYPOCHONDRIAC, 11/4-22

The Hypochondriac, a contemporary re-imagining of Moliére's last play, The Imaginary Invalid, which satirizes today's pill-popping culture and broken, drug-driven health care system, will have select performances at The Cell Theatre from November 4-22.

Directed by Matthew A.J. Gregory and dapted by Matthew A.J. Gregory, Shelia Gregory, Chris Harcum & Greg Tito, The Hypochondriac satirizes the current state of the American health care system.  The cast includes Chris Harcum, Vivienne Leheny, Shira Gregory, Cate Bottiglione, Douglas Scott Sorenson, Chris Critelli, Sheila Jones, and Kyle Haggerty.

The Hypochondriac takes place in a swank Manhattan apartment awash with art, and filled with pill bottles, bedpans and medical paraphernalia. The story revolves around Mr. Argan, a wealthy and eccentric hypochondriac, who is plagued by a gold-digging wife, an insolent maid, a rebellious young daughter and an infestation of drug-peddling, incompetent doctors. Although Argan is actually in fine health, he is so doped up that the side effects alone have him convinced that he is dying. Through a series of tricks and disguises, Argan's fast-talking maid and exasperated brother work furiously to cure him of his true malady.
