The Heights Players continues its "season of firsts" with its first production of the classic 1938 musical comedy, The Boys From Syracuse. With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart, this joyous score contains well-known standards ("This Can't Be Love," "Sing For Your Supper" and "Falling In Love With Love") paired with a book by the legendary George Abbott -- it's a combination that celebrates The Golden Age of Broadway in all its glory.

Based on The Comedy of Errors, The Boys From Syracuse was the first musical to use one of Shakespeare's plays as its source material and it remains the most madcap musical farce ever to animate the stage. The story is set in Ancient Greece, where two sets of long lost twins are about to be reunited. Before these twins can meet, the entire city of Ephesus gets wrapped up in their mistaken identity mishaps, including jilted wives, star-crossed lovers, disgruntled courtesans, outraged constables, loan sharks, and a nutty sorcerer. A story bound to keep everyone roaring with laughter all the way until the story's tangled web is unraveled!

In the interesting facts of firsts the Heights Players is recognizing this season, The Boys From Syracuse was also one of the first integrated musicals, using music and dance as a way to further plot and character development. Originally choreographed by George Balanchine, this musical features several extended dance sequences, some that are often cut from most amateur and stock productions. Director Steve Velardi and Choreographer Michael Kidney have decided to include all of the dances in the Heights Players' very ambitious production.
