Solo performer Martin Dockery –- a seven-time finalist in The Moth's bi-annual Grandslam Storytelling Championship – presents a one-night-only performance of his solo play, "The Bike Trip."

"The Bike Trip" performs on Tuesday January 24, at 8pm, and is part of The Barrow Street Theatre's Fortnight 0.5, this year's one-week edition of the Barrow Street Theatre's annual presentation of alterNative Theatre.

About the show: "Like the other solo plays in his fast growing arsenal, "The Bike Trip" takes us on one of Dockery's strange, true-life journeys of personal exploration, which are by turns harrowing and hilarious. In "The Bike Trip" our fearless journeyman sets out to recreate the exact circumstances of the first LSD trip by the drug's inventor, Albert Hoffman in 1943. With painstaking attention to detail, Dockery locates the office in Switzerland where Hoffman invented LSD and ingested it for the first time, and from which he rode his bike to his home while under the influence. Dockery's recreation of this first test is far from another trip around the block. What it is exactly is a little harder to say."

About the artist: Dockery has earned best-of-festival honors for his original one-man plays in festivals around the world. In two short years, his trophy chest includes a Best of Fest from the Winnipeg Fringe; Best Solo Performance from the San Francisco Fringe; a Pick of the Fringe from Vancouver; Best Original Work and an Impresario Award from the London Fringe; a Sold Out Award in Orlando, and the Audience Choice Award from the New York Frigid Fest. At New York's soloNOVA Festival, he was chosen Breakthrough Performer of the Year.

Starting with "Wanderlust," which he debuted in 2009, Dockery has traveled to West Africa in search of the perfect moment; Cambodia and Vietnam in search of his father ("The Surprise"); Bethlehem via Orlando in search of Jesus ("The Holy Land Experience"), and to heaven in search of his car keys ("Bursting into Flames," his only all-fiction play).

"Wanderlust" and "The Surprise," are both directed by Jean-Michele Gregory, a collaborator of solo performer Mike Daisey. Dockery directs himself in "The Bike Trip," which took off in 2010, and has enjoyed sold-out runs in London and Winnipeg. It was seen recently at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston.

"The Bike Trip" performs once: Tuesday January 24 at 8pm. It'll be gone before you know it.

Tickets are $20; available online at www.SmartTix.com at 212/868-4444 or by online at www.barrowstreettheatre.com or in person at The Barrow Street Theatre, 27 Barrow Street (7th Avenue South, one block south of Christopher Street).
