This personal play is an examination of those elements of Tennessee Williams’s life that helped define the man and inform his work. Proceeds from this performance will go to support the programs of not-for-profit Abingdon Theatre Company.

Having premiered in November 2011 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, En Avant! is an attempt
to present the essential humanity of this admittedly wounded man. A basically shy person who disdained acclaim and celebrity, Tennessee Williams admitted only to being “a minor artist who has managed to write one or two major works.”

According to press notes, Mr. Shuman is a founding member of The Abingdon Theatre Company. He has worked there as both a playwright and an actor and can think of no better venue than this company, dedicated as it is to the development of new American plays, to introduce a play about the life of the most important American playwright of the 20th century.
