Stage Left Studio is a boutique theatre located just one block south of Penn Station. This month, owner/operator Cheryl King is celebrating this success by scheduling January 2012 as The Best of Stage Left Studio, offering special discounts, and welcoming new solo play Speak Up, Connie featuring A.C.T. Alum Cindy Cheung, directed by BD Wong, opening January 17.

Ticket prices range from $15-$25 normally, but with the new “99 Club” participants can take advantage of 9 shows for $99. Nine show “certificates” will be given with each purchase, good for nine months. “With the sustained excellence the theatre has enjoyed, this is a perfect time to roll out the new club.” King endorses the performers that have graced her stage since moving to the new location at 214 W 30th Street.

Kicking off “The Best of Stage Left” in January is 2009 Drama Desk Award nominee Southern Gothic Novel: The Aberdeen, Mississippi Sex-Slave Incident, Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 3 & 4, 7:30 pm. The play enjoyed a six-month run featuring writer/performer Frank Blocker, as well as special performances in celebration of the new space.

Other “Best of” shows running this month include, Grapefruit, Be Careful! The Sharks Will Eat You written and performed by Jay Alvarez, and duo comedy Bait ‘n Swish by David Sisco featuring Sisco with Tom Gualtieri. These shows are all being publicized by The Jacksina Co. The end of the month brings the newest critical darling of Stage Left’s past year with the edgy comedy (for those with the darker sense of humor) Fearless Moral Inventory: 12-Step Walk-Up, which laughingly looks at landlord/tenant wars in New York City. The play is written and performed by Blocker (Southern Gothic) and directed by Kathy Kelly Christos. Fearless can be seen on Jan. 29, Sunday at 5:00 pm for a special performance in celebration of Stage Left’s success and the new 99 Club.

To take advantage of these plays and others through the 99 Club, patrons can go to the studio’s website at www.stageleftstudio.net and click on the 99 Club tab. The purchaser’s name will be on a sticker on each certificate. Certificates can be redeemed for any 99Club show, and the ticket bearer must be accompanied by the member whose name is on the certificate. People who are members can log on to the website and to the 99 Club page, where the current 99 Club shows are listed. Club participants can share theatre fun with their friends, but must be in attendance with them to receive the discount. Reservations must be made in advance via email or phone.
New shows are also part of January’s “Best of” at Stage Left Studio and include 3 Pieces from the Modern Man, Virtual Burka and Salamander Starts Over.

“Nine shows may seem like a lot, but we’ve got nine great shows running this month already.” King beams with pride.
