The Curious Case of Phineas Gage is a new devised theater piece by the acclaimed company Split Knuckle, inspired by one of the most famous cases of traumatic brain injury in all of neuroscience. The story weaves together modern day reality with a steampunk, comic book vision of the future - an adventure through the inner spaces of the mind to the outer reaches of the solar system.
A veteran of the US war in Afghanistan returns home after sustaining a traumatic brain injury in the blast of an improvised explosive device. As the recovery process begins, the extent of his injury reveals itself: he is changed. While his memory, senses and motor skills remain intact, the people closest to him perceive his personality to be wildly altered. Unable to be the man he once was, he is faced with a question: who am I now? Meanwhile, on the fifth moon of Jupiter, a platoon of water mercenaries in the employ of the S Corporation fall victim to a surprise attack by the European insurgency. Stranded amidst an extremely hostile native population and unable to communicate with central command, they are faced with a question: what do we do now?
The Curious Case of Phineas Gage will run Thu 6/6 @ 7pm, Fri 6/7 @ 7pm, Fri 6/14 @ 7pm, Sat 6/15 @ 7pm, Thu 6/20 @ 7pm, Fri 6/21 @ 7pm, Sat 6/22 @7pm, & Sun 6/23 @ 2pm at The Tank (151 West 46th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue, 8th Floor).
