Spicy Witch Productions, the feminist collective which brought you last season's burlesque romp THE C*NT, is proud to present the world premiere of BONESETTER: A TRAGISLASHER, a new play by Annette Storckman running in repertory with Thomas Middleton's rarely produced Tarantinoesque masterpiece THE REVENGER'S TRAGEDY. An ensemble cast will tackle both plays this May11-22, 2016 at The Clemente's Flamboyan Theater. Together, these two bloody pieces explore the fetishization of violence in our society, particularly violence against women.

Spicy Witch Productions' 2016 writer-in-residence, Annette Storckman's adaptation reimagines Middleton's Jacobean satire as an homage to the 1980s style slasher flick. Storckman was inspired to create her adaptation, Bonesetter: A Tragislasher, because The Revenger's Tragedy is "the first play to use what we understand as modern horror, in that the Revenger is motivated by cruelty rather than justice." This new work is the result of Storckman's year long residency with Spicy Witch Productions, in a program developed to foster emerging female writers. In pairing Storckman's campy horror comedy with its source material, audiences will have the opportunity to explore the similar sexual politics that govern both horror movie tropes and the puritanical misogyny in The Revenger's Tragedy. In both plays, the sexual politics are such that women who have sex are doomed to death, while those who maintain their chastity are destined to live. While both plays explore this societal misogyny, both The Revenger's Tragedy and B horror movies are fun! Just as cinema is the primary form of entertainment to the common person now, theater was to those of the Jacobean period. Blending cinematic and theatrical tropes, these two comedies explore our darkest urges, while having fun along the way.

The Revenger's Tragedy, by Thomas Middleton is directed by Rebecca Weiss, Spicy Witch Productions' Executive Artistic Director. Bonesetter: A Tragislasher, by Annette Storckman, is directed by Anaïs Koivisto. The ensemble repertory cast features Clio Contogenis, Amelia Dudley, David Federman, Meghann Garmany, Isaac Allen Miller, Brandon O'Sullivan, Cristina Ramos, Matthew Schott, Kimberlee Walker, Alison Wien , and Madison Welterlen.

Spicy Witch Productions explores gender and identity through the pairing of classical and contemporary plays in repertory. Dedicated to creating roles for women on and offstage, SWP aims to help close the gender gap in theater and to use the conversation between classical and contemporary text to initiate a dialogue and be a catalyst for social change. Spicy Witch Productions was founded in 2013 and is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.
