Loss revolves around three couples at different stages of their relationships and what happens when a husband's loyalty is tested by his wife's best friend. The story comes full circle as two women confront each other with an accusation of betrayal that ends in a fatal showdown. Inspired in part by the life and poetry of Francois Villon, Loss is a collage of beautiful ballads, witty, urbane dialogue and surprising encounters.
Deloss Brown's first play, Heart of a Dog was produced at the McCarter Theatre before premiering at CSC Repertory. His 2007 play The Sheik, inspired by Richard Steele's 1703 comedy "The Tender Husband", was produced at Medicine Show Theatre where it received rave reviews including one from the New York Times. Other plays include The Landlord's Daughter produced as a reading at Manhattan Theatre Club and Symphony Space, Reduced Voltage and Cleaning Solution; both produced at the Direct Theatre and Jonathan Wild, produced at the Houston Playwright's Theatre. As a director he's worked on numerous productions for companies including Riverside Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot, the Julliard Drama Division (including Streamers with Ving Rhames and Uncle Vanya starring Kevin Spacey) and his own Cressid Theatre Company. His play The Red and The Black, based on the novel by Stendhal was presented to critical acclaim at the Theatre at St. Clements in 2013 and is published by Indie Theater Now. As a teacher he has taught Shakespearean verse acting at Julliard and Medieval Theatre and Shakespeare for Writers at NYU.
