EMP Theatricals will present SHOOTING STARS IN JORDAN, written & performed by Sarah Brown & developed by Brown & David Kaye, as part of the 16th Annual New York International Fringe Festival/FringeNYC. The production will be directed by Karen Lynn CARPENTER.

SHOOTING STARS IN JORDAN is the tale of An American Jewish woman who gets lost on her tour to Jordan during an emotional collapse & seeks the advice of a mysterious shopkeeper who sets her on a wild, funny & cathartic journey through her own psychic wilderness. This one-woman tour-de-force had its World Premiere at The International Teatronetto Festival in Tel Aviv, one of the major Solo Show Festivals in the World, in 2011.

Sarah Brown * is an actor, published playwright, songwriter, Fulbright Scholar & professor of performance at The University of Memphis. Appearing in New York & regional theatre, as well as film & television, since she was 7 years old, she has also authored 2 plays with music that have been published by Samuel French, Inc. & along with other works, have been performed or work-shopped, at the NY Theatre Workshop, The Public Theatre, American Place Theatre, American Jewish Theatre & the Miranda Theatre Company. She’s been honored to perform her one-person shows in both the regional United States & at International venues, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, London & Israel. Her satirical play about artistic censorship during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I was produced in London at Theatre 503 by the Practicum Theatre Company. Sarah received her M.F.A. from Yale School of Drama. Sarah comes from a theatrical family. Her late mother, Patricia Brown, was a theatre director & actress who was the Founding Director of Theatre Communications Group & the Executive Artistic Director of the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas & a winner of the Burns Mantle Award for her production of Alan Ayckbourn's Seasons Greetings in the late 80’s at the Joyce Theatre in New York.

Karen Lynn CARPENTER has directed over of one hundred of our most celebrated comediennes in the smash hit Love, Loss & What I Wore, by Nora Ephron & Delia Ephron; winner of the 2010 Drama Desk Award for Best Unique Theatrical Production, now worldwide. Karen just directed Michael Keaton in The 24 Hour Plays for the Festival del Sole in Napa & opened a new musical, Spoolie Girl, for the Midtown International Theater Festival. Later this year: Wendy Yondorf's Admit One for Broadway. Deemed a "provocateur" by the press for her symphony work, Karen recently staged a new commedia opera, Giovanni the Fearless, by Mira Spektor, part of the League of Professional Theater Women's 30 Plays for 30 Years celebration. Last season, she directed Spektor's Housewives Cantata for the York Theater & the world premiere of Mary Walsh’s Dancing With Rage for Canada. In 2010, the William Inge Theater Festival invited her to direct the world premiere of five of William Inge's "lost" one-acts (never before produced nor published). Creative producer for the United Nation's Deliver Now for Women & Children global campaign with Chaka Kahn & Rickie Lake; creative director for the millionwomensheartproject.com launch with Donna Karan & project manager for President Clinton's inaugural Clinton Global Initiative. Seven seasons as Associate Artistic Director of The Old Globe Theater. Last year her alma mater, Boston University's School of Theatre Arts, established The Karen Carpenter Award for Excellence in Theater Arts. Faculty, Yale Drama 1990-1996.

EMP Theatricals, LLC is the creative collaboration of Producer/Director John Mitchell & Producer/Writer & PR Maven Penny Landau. EMP is currently the Associate Producer for Siren’s Heart: Norma Jeane & Marilyn in Purgatory, currently Off-Broadway at The Actors’ Temple.
