Salvatore Brienik's ZOMBIES Invades the Secret Theatre, Now thru 10/20

Breaking the Proscenium, committed to creating entertaining events that inspire the artists and audience to produce real world change, and Standard Bear Productions, dedicated to quality storytelling that makes audiences think while they laugh, have teamed up to present Salvatore Brienik's newest play ZOMBIES at the Secret Theatre.

In this survival horror "zomedy", five strangers and one feline take refuge on the second floor of a stairs-less house in the outskirts of the greater Washington DC area. As radio broadcasts clue them in to what is happening in the world at large, they find themselves struggling with the biggest question faced by the survivors of any global pandemic: now what?

Performances of Salvatore Brienik's ZOMBIES run tonight, October 4th-20th at the Secret Theatre (44-02 23rd Street, Long Island City, NY). Performances run Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, with three matinees on Oct. 7th, 14th and 20th at 3pm. All tickets are $18.00. ZOMBIES runs seventy-five minutes, without intermission, detailing the rise and fall of "Jojo-opolis". Featured in this journey are Eric C. Bailey*, Matt Bernhard* ("Huntik: Secrets & Seekers"), Alex C. Ferrill* (Waiting for Lefty), Miriam Lipner ("Pirates vs Hobos"), Kevin Russo (Midnight in Havana) and Jada Sanders.

Director Martin Peacock (Fleet Week, Braver. Stronger. Smarter.) leads a team that includes Set Design by Stephanie Lee, Light Design by Kia Rogers, Sound Design by Olivia Gemelli, Fight Direction by Al Foote III, SFX Makeup/Creature Design by Stella Barber (Eve, Saving Love), Puppet Design by Miron Gusso, and Costume Design by Caroline Martin. The production will be Stage Managed by DarrylLee VanOudenhave.

Playwright Salvatore Brienik's other works include the short plays Meeting (finalist, Secret Theatre's One Act Festival) and Love and Warcraft, as well as the full length play Final Saga 84 and two full seasons of the web series "Pirates vs Hobos".

As part of Breaking the Proscenium's mission to produce real world change, $2 from every ticket sold will go directly to Food Bank for New York City. As one of the country's largest food banks, their mission is to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's hub for integrated food poverty assistance, the Food Bank tackles the hunger issue on three fronts — food distribution, income support and nutrition education — all strategically guided by its research.

Breaking the Proscenium (BtP) was co-founded in 2012 by Martin Peacock and Liz Torres, after most recently co-producing GHOST on Broadway (in association with Gilbert Productions). BtP is driven to provide insightful, entertaining events through diverse mediums and use them as a catalyst to inspire artists and audiences in producing real world change outside of the theatrical space. To lead by example, each BtP led production will have a portion of its proceeds donated to a charity or cause which best embodies the work's theme.

Standard Bear Productions was found in 2009 by the husband and wife team of Salvatore Brienik and Miriam Lipner. Actors and writers, they've spent over 12 years in New York City performing everything from Shakespeare to standup. Prior to 2009, they ran the improvisational comedy troupe the Jolly Llamas, which over its five-year existence performed in New York, Boston, and other Northeastern cities. With Fugly Productions, the troupe also performed three annual Christmas Spectacular! Spectacular! benefit shows for GMHC.
