Lauren Ferebee's stirring drama Somewhere Safer will be the first play presented by On the Square Productions' Write Angle Reading series at University Settlement. The reading will take place on October 15th at 7:30pm in Speyer Hall where On the Square Production is an Artist-In-Residence for their 2012-2013 season.

Playwright Lauren Ferebee's plays have been developed in various stages with On the Square Productions, Flux Theatre Ensemble, At Hand Theatre, Guerrilla Girls on Tour, and Primary Stages (ESPA). Somewhere Safer was a finalist for the 2012 Old Vic New Voices Playwrights' Exchange and the inaugural recipient of Square One Development with On the Square Productions. The reading will be directed by Deborah Wolfson (B'way: The Farnsworth Invention, Jersey Boys; In Your Image (59e59 Theatres), Monroe, IL: Over Here/Townie (OtSP at The Flea Theater); Williamstown Theatre Festival, and the Red Bull Theater). Ms. Wolfson has worked with On the Square Productions in the development of Somewhere Safer for the past year and also serves at the Literary Manager for OtSP.

About the play: During a violent outbreak of protest a radical splinter group suicide bombs a peace rally in Times Square, killing many, including presidential hopeful and media darling William Ames. The play explores the three years before and the three years after the explosion, following nine people whose lives and ambitions are dramatically changed by this action, asking the difficult and important questions of what memory does to us, and how times of crisis inspire both greatness and extremism.

Cast includes: Roger Clark (Metropolitan Playhouse and On The Square Productions); Connor Fox (Law and Order SVU – NBC and Shouting Secrets); Gregory Lay (The Adjustment Bureau, Law & Order SVU - NBC); Katie McGee (WCBS-TV/WLNY-TV Correspondent, Law and Order SVU); Kim McKean (True Blood - HBO, Great River Shakespeare Festival); Carlton Tanis (MET Opera and Looking Glass Theatre); Chandra Thomas (NYTW, Barrow Group, The Good Wife – CBS); Logan Tracey (Gallery Players and All My Children – ABC); Megan Tusing (Blue Bloods - CBS, Bored to Death – HBO); Sam Tsoutsouvas (B'way By Jeeves, Law & Order CI - NBC).
