91 Central Productions presents character-driven contemporary theater relevant to international audiences. The limited Off Broadway engagement of Safe by Penny Jackson will be at the Theatre at the 14th Y, 344 East 14th Street (1st & 2nd Avenue). Previews begin September 18th and the Opening is Tuesday, September 20th at 7:00 pm. The compelling play is directed by Glory Kadigan and stars Sawyer Spielberg, Meghan St. Thomas, Joel Nagle and Jill Schackner. The Set Designer is James Dardenne, with Costumes Designed by Cheryl McCarron, Lighting Design by Benjamin Ehrenreich and Sound Design by Jacob Subotnick. Line Prodcers are Jazmyn Arroyo and Collin Bradlet. The Stage Manager is Tyler Winthrop and the Casting is by Robin Carus,
Safe is a new American play about when an intriguing older man enters a teenage girl's life. He threatens her relationship with her already estranged father and her best friend as a mystery turns to danger.
Penny Jackson is an award-winning playwright and novelist. Recent plays include I Know What Boys Want (a cautionary tale about cyber bullying and the internet). Bitten, which was the only American finalist for The Kenneth Branagh Award for Drama in The Windsor Fringe. Some other plays include Going Up, a British-American production for the Dublin International Gay Theatre Festival, Louise In Charlestown at The United Solo Festival and Before, for Manhattan Theater Works. It also won first prize in the gun control play competition sponsored by The University of Illinois. She is a resident playwright of the NY Madness, and her short plays have been performed at The Cherry Lane Theater, Ensemble Studio Theater and The Producer's Club. Other short plays have been produced in Chicago, Orlando, and Seattle, and Applause Theater Books and JAC Publishers publish her monologues for teens. Penny is the author of, Becoming The Butlers, the novel was chosen as best book of the year for young adults by The New York Public Library, which Warner Brothers and American Zoetrope optioned for film. Her short stories have been published in literary magazines in the U. S., Ireland and Great Britain. Penny's awards include The Elizabeth Janeway Prize for writing from Barnard College, a Mirrelieis Fellowship for writing from Stanford University and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship. She has taught writing at The Wesleyan Writers Conference, Emerson College, and Yeshiva University.
Performances are Mondays & Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.; Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.for the limited engagement. Tickets are only $18. They can be purchased at www.14streety.org/safe.
