After a stunning opening performance, including an appearance by Melba Moore, RETURN TO LALA LAND returns for its monthly showcase on September 24 at 7:30 p.m. at 13th Street Repertory Theater where LINE, the longest running play in New York history, is still running! Tickets for LALA LAND are on sale at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2580845
LALA LAND is the biographical tale of musician/songwriter/performer LaForrest Cope (a.k.a. LaLa), and her struggle to recreate herself for a modern world despite a golden past that threatens to crush her under its glittery weight.
Lala's brilliance helped launch several careers. She has played and sang with, written for, and produced artists as diverse as Ice Cube, Lauryn Hill, Christina Aguilera, Luther Vandross , FrEddie Jackson, Stephanie Mills, Johnny Gill, Burt Bacharach and Melba Moore. Most notably, it was one of her songs that gave Whitney Houston her first #1 single as well. "YOU GIVE GOOD LOVE" earned LaLa a Grammy Award nomination and ASCAP Honors Award. It also raised Ann Landers' eyebrows at its "suggestive" lyrics.
LALA LAND features Ms. Cope herself, along with Freddy Dugard, Chris Fougere. Director Joe Battista appears in the production as well. Mr. Battista is the artistic director of 13th Street Playhouse and an accomplished musician in his own right. The event is produced by Roslyn Mckay; developed by Battista, McKay, Mark Blickley, Ms. Cope, Freddy Dugard and Chris Fougere, with stage manager Allison Hohman.
The 13th Street Repertory Theater is located at 50 West 13th Street, NYC.
