RAISED BY GAYS AND TURNED OUT OK! is a one-person show written and performed by Elizabeth Collins, comedian and storyteller. "Raised by Gays" debuted at the Hollywood Fringe Festival to rave reviews. Jason Rohrer, critic for Bitter Lemons said "...it's extremely funny. Collins writes of family drama with the wry observation of a David Sedaris and the understatement of a Sarah Vowell..." The show has since been to Houston, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Bakersfield.
Based on her true-life experience of being raised by a mom and dad for the first half of her childhood and for the second half, a team of gay men in Texas during the 90s. While she embraced her father's lifestyle in high school, in college she became a Christian and questioned the morality of homosexuality. Through difficulties in her personal life and with her church, she came to truly understand how being gay is not a choice, because you cannot choose who you love.
"Elizabeth Collins not only has a unique, entertaining and crazy upbringing, she has a knack for telling crowds of strangers all about it. Elizabeth succeeds at making those lucky enough to hear her tale cringe, laugh and feel moved all at once." Margot Leitman, Moth Grandslam Winner, author of "Long Story Short: the only Storytelling Guide You'll Ever Need."
"Elizabeth's story is hilarious and heartfelt and she tells the heck out of it." DC Pierson, comedian, storyteller and author of, "Crap Kingdom"
