Purple Threads Ensemble presents Dear Mr. Rosan, a new play with music and dance, featuring an original script by Danielle M. Velkoff with Music by Erica Jacob and Choreography by Alana Marie Urda. Performances will be staged October 8-20, 2013 at 777 Theater, 777 Eighth Avenue (bet. 46th & 47th Streets), New York, NY 10036.
Dear Mr. Rosan is inspired by an article in The New York Times about the true life story of Mr. Samuel Stone, who posted an ad in his local Canton, Ohionewspaper offering modest monetary help to families in need during the Christmas of 1933. Meanwhile, in New York, George is dealing with the sobering effects of The Great Depression. He refuses to lay off his employees, but is now unable to provide for his own family. George must take a chance. When all hope is pinned to one letter, how will they survive? Dear Mr. Rosan is a journey of hope, transformation and our shared human experience.
Artistic Director Danielle Velkoff states, "Purple Threads' interest lies in the conversations being had with others: artist to artist, artist to audience, human to human. Fascinatingly, the conversations being had in the 1930's are strikingly similar to those we are having today. If ever there were a relevant story, Dear Mr. Rosan is it. Kindness, Laughter, Loyalty and HOPE - these are the threads that tie us all together."
Dear Mr. Rosan features a cast of twenty-two, including Brough Hansen*, Laura King, Sara Canter, Alex Fast*, Pamela Stewart Ehn, Grace McGookey, Joris de Graaf, Mary Anitha Parris, Peter Alexandrou, Alex Nicholson, Amanda Jane Snyder, Erik Gersovitz, Alex Witherow, Alexandra Bailey, Jeffrey Brewer, Kurt Judson Dölze, Scott Mandel, Kilvin Johnson, Jr., Andrea Bohs, Sarah Foster, Brianne Mavis, Kaitlin Paul, Kianna Moye. *Appearing courtesy of Actors' Equity Association.
