The PossEble Theater Company presents the first-ever Off-Off-Broadway Throwdown on September 23 at 4PM at Leisure Time Lanes (625 8th Ave, 2nd Floor, Port Authority).

"Sixteen teams representing the Off-Off Broadway theater community will leave their dancin' shoes at home and meet at the alley for a night of networking, trash talking, $25 all-you-can-drink draft beer, and a little 'healthy' competition!" declare press notes, "The winning team will take home the grand prize of $1,000.00 to aid in the production of future projects and further contributions to the NYC theater community."

While PTC loves any chance to celebrate the Off-Off Broadway community, the company sees every event as an opportunity to give back to its hometown!  The PossE is challenging all participating teams to join PTC in driving over 1,000 children's books to be donated to NYC youth charity organizations including:

Performing Artists for Literacy in the Schools, is a program of the SAG Foundation.  BookPALS donates "book baskets" to in-need public schools in NYC, while also recruiting volunteer professional actors to make classroom visits to read with the students. J.J Singleton of The Little Mermaid will be in attendance to support the cause!

Founded in 2005, by NYU Tisch School of the Arts Alumni, The PossE exists as fresh, alive, alternative theater collective that reflects the realities of our world.  This multi-ethnic, multi-cultural ensemble will revive and introduce various works igniting discussions about class, race, morality, and most important, humanity.  Our goal is to create a theatrical family: a unified team of ambitious, determined artists dedicated to the evolvement of theater.  As devoted members of the theater community, PTC vows to support and encourage the dreams and talents of future generations.  Through the establishment and sponsorship of youth arts initiatives, we aim to spread our strong belief in the power and possibility of theater.

PTC believes in the importance of a strong Off-Off Broadway community. This small circle of theater makers is responsible for revolutionizing theater in the same way the independent film movement revolutionized the film industry.   However, sustaining a grass roots arts organization is becoming more challenging with each passing year.  In the theater capital of the world, where grants are limited, funding is sparse, and the professionals in this field work two fulltime jobs (one that pays the bills and one they love), creating new and necessary work posses serious, at times crippling, financial obstacles.   An average 60-seat, black box theater in NYC rents at $2,700.00/week, liability insurance is an additional $150.00/week, set, props, costumes can total at well over $1,000.00, not to mention the fair compensation of those professionals making the production possible: the skilled actors, directors, and designers.
