Playhouse West, the widely renown training ground for award-winning actors, writers and directors, presents the NYC return engagement of the anthology show, This is Family. The program, produced by women, features five original one-act plays that cumulatively ask provocative questions about the definition of 'family' in 2018. All five plays are also co-written and/or co-directed by women and deal with issues that include race, homophobia, infidelity, neglect, abandonment and forgiveness (to name but a few), in poignant and often comedic ways.
The performance schedule is as follows: Thurs., May 17th through Sat. May 19th at 7PM, with matinee shows on May 17th and 18th at 3pm.

The One-Acts
As I Am, written, directed and starring Samantha Lyn Parry, focuses on a 24-year-old, recently out to her very disapproving Catholic parents. Now, about to marry, she decides to bring her fiancé home to meet her homophobic mom. The piece also features Bethany Sketchley and Cynthia Wikler.
Pickle Jar, written, directed and starring Matthew Brent and Carly Mazzochetti centers on an interracial couple, facing financial hardship, who grapple with their identity and dreams for the future.
Home, written, directed and starring Narci Regina & Bethany Sketchley, involves 2 sisters, Jo and Nina, who are forced to grow up in foster care after being abandoned by their alcoholic mom. Jo's illusions of reuniting with their mom are shattered when Nina confesses to a secret she's hidden for years.
In Bobby and Lizzy, written, directed and starring Ed Aristone and Paula Kem, a super-independent, differently-abled couple faces the challenges of life together and must deal with the chaos brought about by an unexpected guest. Cassandra Cain also stars.
Brothers and Sisters and Husbands and Wives, written and directed by Samantha Lyn Parry, examines how a close sibling bond can shatter when the reasons behind a parental divorce is revealed. With Carrie Brennan, Nick Colletta, Narci Regina, John Tilmont and Alice Weber.
