Playhouse Creatures Theatre Presents HUNTER GATHERERS, Now thru 3/28

PLAYHOUSE CREATURES THEATRE has announced that it will present HUNTER GATHERERS, a black comedy about an annual dinner party that blurs the line between civilized and primal man, tonight, March 3 - March 28 at the Duo Theatre, 62 East 4th St. 2nd floor. Written by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb and directed by Eric Tucker (Wall Street Journal's 2014 Director of the year), The production will have its official opening on Saturday, March 7th at 8:00PM.

HUNTER GATHERERS is a pitch black comedy that begins with one couple's annual dinner get-together with best friends. The evening begins with an animal sacrifice that quickly descends into more sex, violence, deception, wrestling, and dancing than at previous parties. It's an ominously comic evening where the line between civilized and primal man is blurred, and where not everyone will survive long enough to enjoy the brownies for dessert.

HUNTER GATHERERS is the winner of the 2007 ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award and the 2006 Will Glickman Award. Seattle Times said in its review: "'Hunter Gatherers' has power to repulse and convulse, at the same time." Vancouver Presents called it "bloody brilliant."

Playwright Peter Sinn Nachtrieb is a San Francisco-based playwright whose works include boom (TCG's most produced play 2009-10), BOB, (2011 Humana Festival for New American Plays at Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Barrie and Bernice Stavis Award), T.I.C. (Trenchcoat In Common), Hunter Gatherers (2007 ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award, 2007 Will Glickman Prize), Colorado, and Litter: The True Story of the Framingham Dodecutuplets. His work has been seen off-Broadway and across the country including at Ars Nova, SPF, Woolly Mammoth, Seattle Repertory, Actors Theatre of Louisville, San Diego Rep, and in the Bay Area at A.C.T., Encore Theatre, Killing My Lobster, Marin Theatre Company, Impact Theatre, and The Bay Area Playwrights Festival. His newest play, The Totalitarians, received its NNPN rolling world premiere in 2014 at Southern Rep, Woolly Mammoth, and Z Space. Projects in process include an original musical called Fall Springs: A Musical Disaster (with composer/lyricist) and A House Tour of the Infamous Porter Family Mansion led by guide Weston Ludlow Londonderry, A Z Space commission. Peter holds a degree in Theater and Biology from Brown and an MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. HUNTER GATHERERS features Emily Dahlke, Megan O'Leary, Joseph W. Rodriquez and John Russell.

Production design includes sets by Eric Tucker, lights by Juliana Beecher, stage management by Todd Boger, and props by Darcy Dahlke. Costume consultant is Janet Bobcean.

Performances of HUNTER GATHERERS are Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8PM. The theater is not wheelchair accessible.
