Playhouse Creatures Theatre Presents the First Annual From Page 2 Stage Festival of New Works
featuring 16 actors, 9 playwrights, 5 directors & 6 performances.
Page 2 Stage Festival of new worksis set to run November 16-20th, 2011 in repertory.
Playhouse Creatures Theatre Company is proud to announce its first annual From Page to Stage Festival of Original Work. After receiving over an impressive 250 submissions in its open call for short plays this past summer, the company selected 9 plays to feature in this year's festival; comprised of seven 10 minute shorts and two one Act plays. The minimally staged festival will run one exclusive week during November 16 - 20, 2011 and feature a company of actors working in repertory and off book in staged interpretations of the pieces. The End Result is an exciting and entertaining week filled with diverse selections sure to entertain and bring these new writers into the spotlight!
"We were originally going to do a reading of the plays, but we realized that these pieces were in need of staging and being seen on their feet," explains Patricia Duran, Director of New Play Development. "From Page to Stage is a ‘step-up' from a staged reading. The actors will be memorized and rehearsed, but the festival will be bare bones with minimal to no sets, lighting, or costumes. The festival is about focusing and celebrating the playwright, the written text, and the actor bringing it to life. It is the step before full production elements are implemented."
The selected playwrights represent various parts of the country, further adding to the spectrum of style and content. The two one act plays include "Un-Hinged: A Silent Opera" by Krista Knight (NY) and "True Blue" by K. Alexa Mavromatis (Rhode Island). The ten minute selections include "The Law of Passionate Attraction or The Sex Life of the Stars" by Andrew Karp (NY), "Oly the Doorman" by Matthew Hanf (CA), "The Sum of Your Experiences" by Trace Crawford (Ohio), "Long, Long Distance" by Francis Alix (MA), "Legacy" by Chris Shaw Swanson (Ohio), "Organized, Literate, Musical, Fire-resistant, Passionate" by Paul Cohen (NY), and "Spanish Women" by Britain Valenti (Louisiana).
"The new works we will be presenting, gives PCTC a great opportunity to give voice to nine wonderful playwrights- and provide employment for over twenty theatre artists," states Artistic Director Joseph W. Rodriguez. "..All of which tie in with our mission to develop new works and nurture our community."
