With previews starting on March 11, 2019 and officially reopening on April 12, 2019, Pip's Island returns to New York City and establishes a permanent home for its groundbreaking immersive entertainment adventure for kids at 400 West 42nd Street.
Under the leadership of the three founders, CEO Rami Ajami, Chief Creative Officer Rania Ajami and Creative Director Walter Krudop who conceived and designed the world of Pip's Island, the interactive show features nine unique environments for audiences to explore, discover and enjoy. The vision was realized by Director of Production David Valentino, assembling a world-class group of scenic fabricators, visual and installation artists, musicians, sound and lighting designers, puppeteers and live actors to create a multi-sensorial world and original content, with the majority of the set built in NYC, including:
· The Brooklyn-based design and fabrication shop Pink Sparrow, who produced activations at Coachella, Austin City Limits, Dior Backstage and many others, collaborated with Pip's Island team to create the many of the multi-sensorial environments of Pip's Island's magical journey;
· Famed puppeteer and builder Monkey Boys, who created puppets for Sesame Place, Beauty and the Beast, Saturday Night Live, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Broadway, Universal Studios Orlando and much more, created Pip's Island popular characters including the perpetually-hungry Mrs. Grumble Plum, the luminous Amperes Watson, and the dastardly Moles;
· NYC custom prop shop Paper Maché Monkey, who has been specializing in bridging the creative gap between design and fabrication, theater and innovative artisanal craft, and creator of Cirque du Soleil magicians and clowns, produced interactive props throughout the experience;
· Brooklyn-based scenic shop John Creech Design and Production, who has built sets for New York Fashion Week, Designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Designer Jason Wu, Guggenheim International Gala, and much more, produced the magical Cloud Rover, Pebble's trusty sky-ship;
· One of NYC's leading scenic art shops Infinite Scenic who created the coral design of Shelly's shore;
· World-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater lighting director, Al Crawford of Arc3Design designed Pip's Island's lighting;
· Costume Designer Fabio Toblini who has produced a diverse array of theater, musicals, opera and dance ranging from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, My Fair Lady, Hedwig and The Angry Inch, The Nutcracker and more, created Pip's Island's costumes;
· Composer Bruce Yauger who has created soundtracks for Django Unchained and Camp Utopia composed five original songs for Pip's Island.
After making its world premiere in November 2016 in NYC for a limited engagement, the three founders including sibling duo Rania and Rami Ajami and Creative Director Walter Krudop bring the next chapter of the Pip's Island adventure to a custom-built flagship attraction in the heart of Manhattan. Combining immersive sets, original narrative, exploratory spaces and stimulating audiovisual content, the brand's mission is to provide a space where children are encouraged to find their inner spark and to positively impact the world around them.
Audiences will be guided through an hour-long inspirational "hero's journey" by live performers, puppets, interactive set-pieces and animated characters. Children will navigate a series of challenges and one-of-a-kind games to save the Island from darkness and restore harmony to the land. Along the way, they will collect signature achievement badges, called "sparks" on Pip's Island, which parallel many elements of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) curriculum. As the audience moves forward, the story unfolds, the music escalates, the characters change, the challenges grow, and the young audience is soon engaged in an uplifting adventure that will leave them with a lasting sense of self-esteem and personal empowerment.
Pip's Island is a time-ticketed experience designed for ages 4-10, although grown-ups looking to reconnect with their childhood sense of wonder are also encouraged to sign up for an expedition!
The show lasts 60 minutes and it's recommended to arrive 15 minutes in advance of the ticketed time. Pip's Island runs daily Wednesday through Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
