Squatters Theatre and Isramerica are proud to present the world premiere of SABRA by Julia Rosenfeld, directed by Samantha Tella. Performances are at the Manhattan Theater Source, 177 MacDougal Street through June 6th.
Gilah is a Jewish American college dropout who travels to Israel, the country meant to be her homeland, to find where she belongs...or maybe just to see the girl she can't stop thinking about. Desire, identity and falafel collide in this titillating new play about finding your voice when you can't speak the language.
Playwright Julia Rosenfeld is the editor of the Theatre Development Fund's teen theatre magazine PxP and online Plog. She is currently working as the Story Editor on Fusion Picture's film Rise Above. Director Samantha Tella has worked with MCC Theater, The Flea, New Georges and NYMF. She works behind-the-scenes on the HBO documentary mini-series Master Class.
Sabra is produced by Sivan Hadari who also serves as Artistic Director for ISRAMERICA; a non-profit company of New York based Israeli and Jewish-American artists. Hadari has worked with Small Pond Entertainment on shows such as Rooms, Fictive Kinship, Man in the Newspaper Hat, co-produced No Exit with Elian Zach and was last seen on stage in the NY Fringe Festival summer hit Sex and the Holy Land.
The cast of Sabra includes: Chris Beier, Noam Harary, Sarah Kaufman, Adam Shiri, Rony Stav and Elian Zach. Associate Producers: Rosie Moss, Jesse Reing and Anna Zicer. Consulting Producer: Michelle Slonim.
