Is conformity the answer that guarantees safety and comfort in a "civilized" society? To continue its season, "But Who Am I, Really," The Seeing Place presents a revival which examines that distinct moment when a person makes a choice between two worlds that changes their identity forever.
The Seeing Place Theater, known for intense & intimate ensemble work, brings you Eugene Ionesco's absurdist, socio-political treatise, RHINOCEROS - directed by BranDon Walker. A commentary on the absurdity of the human condition made tolerable only by self-delusion, RHINOCEROS shows us the struggle of the individual to maintain integrity and identity in a world where all others have succumbed to the "beauty" of brute force, natural energy, and mindlessness. Ionesco startles audiences with a world that invariably erupts in explosive laughter and nightmare anxiety.
SYNOPSIS: When a rhinoceros charges across the town square one Sunday afternoon, Berenger thinks nothing of it. Soon, however, rhinoceroses are popping up everywhere and Berenger's whole world is under threat. What will it take for him to stand up to the increasing menace of rhinocerisation? Initially a parable for Nazi conformity, this powerful piece questions mob mentality and how we succumb to social pressures.

About The Seeing Place:
"The Seeing Place" is the literal translation of the Greek word theatron: "...the place where we go to understand ourselves."
The Seeing Place Ensemble is an actor-driven company: built by actors and managed by actors to be a base for actors who want to grow & hone their craft in a creative and supportive artistic home. TSP is forcefully committed to four key elements of theatre-making: developing highly trained actors into thriving self-producers; honoring the craft of the acting process through rehearsal and into performance thereby bringing organic, "fully lived" storytelling to our community; presenting compelling works by master playwrights that reflect the struggles and triumphs of our current society; and making theater accessible for all New Yorkers by keeping ticket prices low and affordable.
