SHARKS, written and performed by Jay Alvare and directed by Theresa Gambacorta will play Stage Left Studio October 10, 12, 17, 26 & 27 at 7:30pm and October 14 & 28 at 2:00pm. Check out photos of Alvare onstage below!
This show is a stunner, written by a man who experienced his father’s, HUMBERTO ALVAREZ, unimaginable courage in the face of crushing historical events that rendered an entire nation of people indescribably helpless. These are the parallel stories of Mr. Alvarez’ beloved island, Cuba; the glitz and glamour of Havana nightlife and what was about to bring it all crashing down thunderously on the world’s stage.
The show sold out six extended runs at the new Stage Left Studio (214 West 30th Street – between 7th and 8th Avenues on the 6th floor). Its premiere in Los Angeles at the Theatre of Note (1517 North Cahuenga Boulevard) played as part of the Hollywood Fringe. It also ran in a special one-night performance at Casa Bacardi at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies at the University of Miami. The show re-opened in Los Angeles at the ArtWorks Theatre as part of the Hollywood Fringe’s Best of Fringe celebration and was honored with Best Solo Performance by the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival for its acclaimed sold-out run at the
Cherry Lane Theatre this August.
Most recently Sharks premiered in Portland’s Festival of the Hispanic Arts, La Luna Nueva, at the Milagro Theatre, as well as winning more awards for its sold-out run at Washington DC’s MetroStage.
